About Semantic Scholar

Free academic search engine from the Allen Institute for AI, with one-line paper summaries and citation context.

Semantic Scholar is a free search engine for scientific papers run by the Allen Institute for AI, a nonprofit research institute. It covers many fields, with particular depth in computer science and biomedicine.

It uses AI to make papers quicker to scan. Many results carry a one-sentence TLDR summary, and paper pages show which citations are highly influential and the context in which other papers cite them. You can create a free account to follow authors, save papers to a library and get recommendations.

Researchers and developers can use its free API to pull paper metadata, citations and author data into their own tools, and it publishes large open datasets as well. As with any summary, read the abstract and methods before you cite a paper, since a single sentence can't carry a study's limits.
